My favorite vacation ever took place in the Sierra Nevadas Mountains of California and Nevada. The rocky peaks in this painting were a challenge to my abilities to apply layers of acrylic. The richness and variety of color is accomplished by patience in applying many layers. I needed willingness to keep allowing for some areas to be built up, while other areas are showing thin applications from underneath.
I loved riding on this winding road which took us from a cabin on a peak overlooking Lake Tahoe, to the shore 10 miles below. The constant winding turns, with drop-offs all along the way made for a great ride and a great painting.
